I recently had the great joy of speaking to long-time friend Nathalie Nahai to talk all things psychoanalysis and tech on her In Conversation podcast. In it we discuss the complexities of the global human psyche, exploring themes of fear, the impact of AI on therapy, and the nature of synthetic relationships. We cover the challenges posed by technology in human connection, the polarisation of society, and the need for economic and social change. The dialogue also touches on the importance of interpersonal relationships, the search for meaning in discomfort, and the role of myths in navigating contemporary challenges. Ultimately, they emphasise the necessity of grounding oneself in reality and fostering genuine connections to navigate the complexities of modern life. I hope you enjoy!
I'm coming to Substack!
If you enjoy this sort of thing and would like to keep up with, why don't you sign up for my Substack which I will be launching shortly? I am calling it Applied Psychodynamics with Aaron Balick where I will be regularly sharing my thoughts on the cutting edge of tech, culture, and everyday life using depth psychology (and other disciplines) as my lens.
Don't let the title Applied Psychodynamics put you off! (I'm told I do this with my titles). All it means is that I apply (put to use) tools from psychodynamics (the kind of psychology that talks a lot about unconscious process) to interesting things happening in our world. My aim is to share all that in ways that you can understand without being an expert - just be curious! It's a work in progress, so it may be a little bit more rough and ready than what you're used to from me, and I'm as curious as you are to see how it goes. It's going to be interesting, it's going to be free, so what do you have to lose?
If you have received this blog post in your inbox, it means that you are already a subscriber, so just wait and see when the first Applied Psychodyanics Newsletter arrives. It's very easy to unsubscribe, so please do so if it moves you to - I want to add some intellectual nourishment to your life - not spam!
I look forward to seeing you over there!
